These past 3 weeks have been filled with students exploring our essential question: How can we live to be healthy? We have been especially busy learning all about the healthy food groups that work together to make a healthy plate. Through video, books, and tasting (!) we have explored the yummy and nutritious options that being a healthy eater offers us! Students have been busy recording their learning in food groups books, creating a first draft of a healthy plate, collecting data about our favorite fruits and vegetables, and participating in a taste test to explore some foods. We also enjoyed our time earlier this week at Suzie's Farm, where we saw how healthy food can grow from the ground...and where we got to try some new and interesting foods! Take a look at some of our project learning in the slide show below!
We have also launched our guided reading groups. This means that all students have been assessed as readers and are now in small groups with other students who have similar reading needs. I meet daily with small groups and we are working on our reading strategies and comprehension skills to continue our growth as readers! We continue to grow as writers, working on adding more details to our story (and making it interesting for our readers!). 1st graders continue to grow their number sense skills, as well as combining numbers. I am so proud of their perseverance in learning new skills and working to become 1st grade experts!
